US Imports of fruits and preparations may rise

The rapid growth for total US imports of fruits and preparations is likely to continue in 2006, following the rise to about USS 6.9 billion in 2005, compared with US 6 billion dollar in 2004. Much of the increase is coming from larger horticultural imports from Latin America and East Asia. Lower tariffs for various commodities contributed to greater US imports in recent years of a number of fruit commodities, especially avocados, citrus fruit, and strawberries.
