摘要

To the contrary, RRG was hacked out of the jungle with axe and machete by Jim West and Meredith Foyle, starting about 22 years ago. At that time it was a six- to eight-hour hike in from the nearest road—the hours depending on what was in their backpacks. Therefore they enjoyed all the luxury they were willing to carry. In other words, they led a rather rustic life. Later a horse helped improve their standard of living, and then the government of Ecuador bulldozed a road through their farm—which youmight use if your 4x4 could cross the Guaycuyacu River. Just recently the government built a bridge across the Guaycuyacu and you can drive to within in about 150 yards of their house. I reckon Jim and Meredith to be in their late middle age. Still, they have not yet adapted to the bus stopping at their gate and seem to be content with what they and the horse carried in before the bridge was built. Their modern conveniences include a hydroelectric plant that generates a whopping 300 watts, just enoughto light two florescent bulbs while recharging their laptop.
