The current trend in greenhouse construction is to build higher and higher still. Increased use of robots and moving cultivation systems have also led to wider spans, placing higher demands on construction. A Dutch greenhouse manufacturer investigatedsome alternatives to the sturdy columns that are currently used. The result is the innovative Twinlight substructure. In Autumn 2006 two vegetable growers approached greenhouse builder P.L.J. Bom, from the Netherlands, to discuss the possibility of building a glass greenhouse that will reach 8 metres high because they were convinced that it would offer advantages in climate control.
