As an ophthalmology resident in the early 90s, I remember the concern about being able to find a location to practice and secure surgical privileges after residency. Twenty years later, I see residents across the country having the same concerns and one has to wonder if these concerns are more valid today than 2 decades ago. Are there fewer positions available to ophthalmologists today? Are the opportunities to attain operating room privileges dwindling? Are ophthalmology residents graduating today able to find work?
