NORTHERN AWAITS VERDICT ON SETTLEMENT OF ANCIENT DISPUTE OVER KANSAS AD VALOREM TAX REFUNDS

On 7/15/11 Northern Natural Gas Co. (RP11-1781) put a settlement out for FERC's consideration. Based on the parties' participation and agreement, the settlement offer sets forth the amounts to be paid by each customer with respect to certain Kansas ad valorem tax refunds that have been the subject of three separate Court of Appeals remands. The settlement, Northern wrote in its initial comments, will result in substantial savings in litigation expenses by all the parties and is consistent with the Commission's overall encouragement of settlements. According to Northern, "The Settlement is the result of negotiations and discussions among the parties and is endorsed by a broad spectrum of natural gas industry participants."
