VALUE OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S FINANCIAL INTERVENTIONS AND SUBSIDIES IN ENERGY HAS DOUBLED, ENERGY INFORMATION ADMINISTRATION REPORTS

Between fiscal year (FY) 2007 and FY 2010, the value of direct federal financial interventions and subsidies in energy doubled, growing from $17.9 billion to $37.2 billion, according to the recent report, Direct Federal Financial Interventions and Subsidies in Energy in Fiscal Year 2010, from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). In broad categories, the largest increase was for conservation and end-use subsidies, followed to a lesser degree by increases in electricity-related subsidies and subsidies for fuels used outside the electricity sector.
