Response from Disciplinary Committee member Cliff Barnes

I have been a member of the FRC's Disciplinary Committee on behalf of the BFBA for the past four years. With my letter in Forge regarding illegal farriery, (February 2012, page 30) and the number of such cases being reported in the magazine, I wanted to highlight how many cases of this type are appearing before the Disciplinary Committee. As farriers we are all aware that the apprenticeship is four years and two months long, and that during that period an apprentice can engage in legal farriery. Any farriery practised outside that period is illegal and has been since 1975.
