Millipore(www.millipore.com/proteinresearch)has announced that its Ultrafree~R and Microcon~R centrifugal filters are suitable for use in the genomic-based identification of hazardous airborne biological agents,a critical bio-defence application.Ultrafree centrifugal devices contain a micropor-ous membrane that quickly clarifies microbiological samples.Microcon centrifugal devices include an ultrafiltration membrane,which conveniently purifies microbial DNA after PCR amplification.Millipore's size-exclusion ultrafiltration technology allows for single-spin purification of PCR-amplified DNA without alcohol precipitation or bind-wash-elute protocols.After centrifugation,the purified DNA is immediately ready for sequencing or other analyses.
