One of the advantages of being self-employed is that you can choose your clients. Obviously you have to be more than half decent in the service you provide, the economy not flat on its face, and your working area not swamped by voracious competition. If you change career, as I did, seeking an occupation that offers dreamless sleep, you don't want to wake on a Monday morning, scan the diary, and mutter 'holy crap ... I've got to go there today!'
