First to process salmon in Poland, now a giant

Poland's second largest smoker after Morpol, Suempol was the first company to process Norwegian salmon in Poland when it started off in 1992.The factory's history dates back to 1989. At that time the communist government allowed the creation of private enterprises.The founders, Ursula and Edward Siecinski, were eager to operate a private firm. That was when Suempol first saw the light of day.The Siecinskis met a German company on the lookout for someone to process salmon cheaply for the Germany.The Polish factory now employs 800 people full-time, 1,000 during the busy Christmas season."We're the biggest employer in the town and one of the biggest in the region; 78 percent of our staff are women," said Monika Siecinska-Jaworowska.
