GENOMIC BREAKTHROUGH FOR SALMON: GENOTYPE MARKER MILESTONE

A qua Gen have announced that they are the first company to genotype more than 900,000 markers per sample from Atlantic salmon, thereby achieving the capability to implement genomic selection and improve their salmon breeding programme. The company, which is also a member of the Erich Wesjohann (EW) Group GmBH and Center for Integrative Genomics (CIGENE) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB), has been working in collaboration with Affymetrix Inc. Aqua Gen manages a large scale selectivebreeding programme for Atlantic salmon and has also been pioneering the use of marker-assisted selection in aquaculture breeding through their QTL-innOva products.
