Predator procedures reviewed following sea lion deaths

FOLLOWING recent cases where marine mammals have been caught in fish farm nets, the British Columbia salmon industry is reviewing the effectiveness of farm procedures for predator protection. The British Columbia Salmon Farmers' Association (BCSFA) has said that it will be holding a meeting of farm managers, net manufacturers and dive contractors to determine what changes can be made to reduce the risk to sea lion populations and other marine mammals, and to adapt to a larger number of animals whilecontinuing to protect farm stock from their natural predators.
