Complete and ready for public use by Christmas, an innovative tree-top walk is a striking new feature of the Forestry Commission's (FC) Salcey Forest in Northamptonshire. Its opening came just one year after the River Nene Regional Park Initiative received a 700 000 pound grant for its construction from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). The funds had to cover every aspect of the project including car parks and fees. Client for the initiative is Northants Forest District and Forestry Civil Engineering (FCE) -see below - was chosen for the design which is based on recent past successful recreation design projects. It was designed for all-ability access, as dictated by the ODPM for all the facilities it finances and access will be free to all, 'encouraging many to the fresh air of the countryside'.
