The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA or the Agency) is responsible for regulating food, food and color additives and cosmetics. The primary law CFSAN administers to ensure these productsare safe and properly labeled is the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (the FD&C Act). Under the FD&C Act, dietary supplements are considered foods, although there are regulations that are unique and specific to dietary supplements.
