"One size doesn't fit all" was the watchword at an hours-long produce safety hearing held by the House Horticulture and Organic Agriculture Subcommittee last week. The well-worn phrase was invoked by Chairman Dennis Cardoza (D-Calif.) in opening remarks, by three other panel members and by at least one witness.The hearing's climactic moment came when Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) asked David Acheson, FDA associate commissioner for foods, whether an organic or small-scale farm had ever been responsible for a "CNN-grabbing news item" about unsafe food. "This isn't a gotcha question," he added, "I just want to know."
