[MINNEAPOLIS] Tennant Co., a manufacturer of surface maintenance equipment, recently introduced ReadySpace, a technology it hopes will revolutionize commercial carpet care. Unlike other wet cleaning methods, it promises carpets that are clean, dry and ready for foot traffic within 30 minutes. Current wet-cleaning methods require as much as 15 hours to 18 hours of drying time due to the amount of water applied to the carpet, according to Tennant. Any significant amount of drying time in a commercial space can mean loss of productivity and even revenues. Hotels, for example, can't rent rooms when the carpet is wet. The ReadySpace techriology targets soil within the carpet pile. The sprayer units apply water to two counter-rotating fabric rollers that pick up the soil from the carpet. The rollers turn at a rate of approximately 400 times per minute. As they turn, they are rinsed with a solution spray and a built-in vacuum extracts the soil from the rollers. Very little water actually reaches the carpet because it is never sprayed with water.
