The Wildlife Society: New Vision, Directions, and Opportunities

In the fast-paced and inter-connected world of the twenty-first century, it is critical that non-profit professional and scientific organizations remain flexible and dynamic, that is, to embrace positive and adaptive change, This is an apt descriptionof the many evolutionary advances currently underway at The Wildlife Society (TWS)—the American Fisheries Society's (AFS) close neighbor and collaborator. Since I assumed the position of executive director/CEO in September 2005, we have accomplished agreat deal, but I cannot take sole credit for these encouraging results, I use the term "we" purposely because no organization implements positive change without the efforts and cooperation of numerous people, including elected members of the governing council, staff, program leaders, and members, which now number around 7,000, My purpose in writing this article is to provide AFS members with a brief overview of the many positive changes being made at TWS, as well as a glimpse of the future.
