Chicken wings a kick for Super Bowl

ALTHOUGH becoming increasingly popular throughout the year, chicken wings are a huge kick for Super Bowl parties, according to the National Chicken Council (NCC). Indeed, more than 1.23 billion wing portions will be consumed during Super Bowl weekendthis year (which matches up the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 3) — enough wing segments that, laid end to end, would stretch between the two cities 27 times, NCC said. The number actually is 1% lower than the amount of wings consumed during last year's Super Bowl, NCC senior vice president and chief economist Bill Roenigk noted, although that's not because of a decrease in demand but due to a 1% decrease in chicken production last year. Stating the obvious, he said a chicken hasjust two wings, which means that the number of wings produced is limited to the number of chickens produced.
