WITH large areas of eastern Canada's productive land experiencing drought (Map), Canadian farm and commodity groups are alarmed that governments plan to agree next month to slash spending on the very programs helping producers deal with drought. Canada's largest farm group, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), berated the federal government for its plans to use the current good prices to "radically overhaul farm business risk management programs," using savings to cut government deficits. Farm leaders said they are not being consulted enough as governments work toward a March deadline for the overhaul.
