Maritime Security: WHAT GRAIN ELEVATOR OPERATORS NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ISPS AND THE MTSA

This article is based on a presentation by William ]. (Jerry) Cotter, director of operations, Port of Corpus Christi Authority, Corpus Christi, TX (361-882-5633). He spoke in February at GEAPS Exchange 2005 in Albuquerque, NM. In order to understand what we must do to meet the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) and the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA), it helps to know how and why these regulations were developed. These regulations are the resultof a bold security initiative of the United States. Both the ISPS and MTSA became effective July 1, 2004.
