摘要

I'm writing this on my laptop in the departure lounge of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, on the way home from the enjoyable and successful Global Fuels Conference, since I have an hour to spare (even though it is nearly midnight). One of the unusual topics that came up at the conference (or should I say, 'at the bar' afterwards) was 'What would you do with a million pounds?' For international readers, that's probably Euro 1.2m or 1.5m US dollars. Well, nowadays, you can't do an awful lot with it: in fact, they have worked out that with the ravages of inflation, you need to have about 3m UK pounds in the bank to be able to live the life of a millionaire (or at least a millionaire in the 1970s, the last time that a million pounds was really a lot of money). So, to give myself a little bit of leeway, I'd like to consider what I'd do with 10m UK pounds.
