There are times when you have to restrict access to work areas. You may need a crane or have a trench, or you may be using a hoistway, or maybe you removed guardrails for maintenance.Restricting access so that only qualified and trained personnel are allowed in the area reduces the potential for injury from something dropping or falling, from a person falling, or a trench collapse. Typical injuries in these instancesinclude being struck by something, having something collapse on you, being caught in or between equipment,or falling from a platform or through a roof or into a bin.How do you alert people to the hazard of the work area, and how do you educate people of the risks and the remedies of keeping employees, contractors, and visitors from a hazard that may not have been there the day before.
