Why the Agrochemical Market is Growing: Long-term demand, short-term prices continue to bolster demand for crop protection technoloqies

The agrochemical market is made up of two segments, the crop protection and non-crop sectors. Adding the two sectors together, the agrochemical market has been enjoying a period of sustained growth since 2002. The key factors that affect each sector are quite different.The performance of the non-crop sector - home and garden, nursery and ornamentals, professional pest control, industrial use of herbicides, public health etc. - is linked directly to wealth and the performance of the general economy. As wealth improves,people and companies spend more on products for use around the house or factory. As such, the non-crop sector grew steadily until 2009, when limited economic growth in the major markets held the sector back. Growth has continued in the public-health sector, though, driven by greater investment and developing markets where economic growth has been sustained.
