Book Club Edition: Adapt in Business & Life

"Adapt: Why Success Always Starts with Failure" is the title of the latest book by the economics journalist Tim Harford. Fareed Zakakria (whose show "GPS" airs on CNN) selected the title as his Book of the Week twice. That is quite rare, but now having listened to the book twice, I agree this is an important window on the world we inhabit and try to understand. As the title suggests the premise is simply that the world is far more complicated than can be normally comprehended and impossible to plan and predict. Mr. Harford gives the example of the enormous complexity around global warming and how difficult it is to make decisions about what to do. Many of the things we think will help, like eating local vegetables, are far less useful than we thinkand transportation of some long distances are far less harmful than we assume.
