Biocontrol pays off for cucumber growers

A reduction in pesticide use and a better quality crop have been the results of the successful use of bio-control agents by Leamington, Ontario cucumber growers Dean Tiessen and Phil Warkentin. "For the last three years we have been involved with a biocontrol program," explains cucumber and tomato grower Dean Tiessen of Pyramid Farms, who made the switch to an alternative pest control method due to a lack of available pesticides and growing insect resistance.
