Orica gives update on Kooragang facility

East Melbourne-Orica Ltd. on Nov. 15 gave an update of the ammonia release at its Kooragang Island facility that occurred Nov. 9 (GMNov. 14,2011), reducing its estimates of the actual amount of ammonia released to up to 170 kg, down from the 875 kg that was originally advised. Orica said the plant produces 15 percent of Australia's ammonia, and the emissions to air during 2009/2010 from the entirefacility constituted 0.5 percent of Australia's total ammonia emissions to air. Overall, it said the site is 33rd on the list of facilities emitting ammonia to air nationally.
