AUSTRALIAN CHEMICALS and explosives manufacturerOrica Limited has released the Independent Engineer’sReport into the release of hexavalent chromium from itsKooragang Island ammonia plant north of Newcastle inNew South Wales on August 8. The release of a smallamount of hexavalent chromium, which is believed to be acarcinogen when inhaled, occurred during re-start-up of theammonia facility following a planned maintenanceshutdown, which included work to complete an expansionof installed capacity (FW, August 19. 2011).
