It is the quiet deeds of love and kindness that bring forth the best traits of a person's life. The basic truth of this statement was mined far up a rugged mountainside, from inside a little cabin. It was nestled close to majestic pines, and overlooked a winding creek with much gold-bearing gravel. There were also potholes, crevices, and areas under boulders, which yielded large pieces of this precious metal. The solitary miner who worked this remote claim was known as Roger, and that seemed to be enough of a name. Fishermen, campers, and other miners who used the narrow trail above his cabin, would hear him singing as he chopped wood for his cook stove. Or, they heard the low hum of the motor of his dredge, while he worked down at the winding creek.
