Rhodia Plans Bio-Based Solvents Plant in Brazil

France-based Rhodia S.A. plans to build a bio-based solvents plant at its Paulinia site in S?o Paulo and is also studying a project in Asia, according to a May 23 ICIS report citing a company executive. The company, which is part of Belgium-based Solvay, currently produces the solvents, branded “Augeo,” at its Santo Andre site, also in S?o Paulo. The solvents are based on glycerine, a bi-product of biodiesel production, and can be used as an alternative to petrochemical-based solvents such as glycol ethers and acetates.
