Sasol Touts ‘EPU5’ to Boost PE Production at S. Africa Plant

Sasol S.A.’s new ethylene-purification unit in Sasolburg, South Africa, was officially inaugurated on January 14 by Sasol CEO David Constable and South African Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Rob Davies. The new unit is officially known as the ethylene-purification unit 5 (EPU5), according to a company announcement. Located at the company’s polymers site in Sasolburg, Sasol said the R1.9-billion (US$175.2-million) plant is expected to address the growing demand for polyethylene (PE) material. The plant will also ensure better utilization of Sasol’s existing downstream PE facilities.
