Sasol resumes normal transportation fuel production after cutting power usage in response to S. African crisis

In order to ensure continued supply of transportation fuels to the inland region, Johannesburg, South Africa-based Sasol Synfuels resumed normal production on January 28. This is after throughput was reduced January 25, in response to Eskom's request for load cuts to reduce electricity consumption in the light of current power shortages in South Africa. Sasol already generates more than 30 percent of its total electricity requirements. Short term measures included de-commissioning certain equipment which reduced electricity demand from Eskom at Sasol's synthetic fuels facility in Secunda.
