Louisiana Legislative Committee OKs Tax Incentives for Sasol GTL Project

After a week-long delay, Louisiana’s Joint Legislative Committee on August 15 voted to approve various tax incentives estimated to total US$257 million for Sasol’s proposed US$14.5-billion, gas-to-liquids (GTL) Fischer- Tropsch (FT) fuels and chemicals plant near Lake Charles. Lawmakers had delayed approving the incentives package while awaiting an economic analysis from Gov. Bobby Jindal (R). That analysis now shows that the state will net at least $873 million over 15 years in new tax revenues resulting from the project, which will mainly produce FT diesel and kero-jet fuels, as well as FT naphtha.
