PetroChina, Sinopec Refinery Projects Suspended After Failed Emission Tests

The China Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) in its 2012 assessment of major pollutants announced August 29 that PetroChina Company Ltd. (Petrochina) and China Petrochemical Corp. (Sinopec) failed their respective chemical-oxygen demand and nitrogen-oxide emissions tests. As a result, recently approved refinery-upgrade projects for both companies have been retracted.
