The European Maritime Safety Agency on March 25 released an updated study by Germanischer Lloyd on standards and rules for ships to be fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) rather than by traditional bunker fuels such as heavy fuel oil or marine gasoil. The study points out that about 30 LNG-fueled vessels already are operating mostly in the Baltic Sea and Norwegian waters, “most of them on the authority of the Norwegian administration.”
