SEKISUI CHEMICAL interlayer film expansion planned

Sekisui Chemical Co. plans to invest JPY 10 billion to build a plant in the Netherlands and another in the US by 2007 to make interlayer film for laminated glass. The global market for interlayer film is estimated at JPY 100 billion and is rising at about 3 percent0 a year, with demand coming mainly from the automobile and construction sectors. Sekisui Chemical has 40 percent of the global market for products for automotive use, which accounts for two-thirds of the total, putting it ahead of US firms such as Solutia Inc. and E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co.
