The desire to obtain more than one type of chemical information from a single instrumentation device has always been a motivating force in analytical chemistry. The particle beam glow discharge mass spectrometer (PB/GDMS) serves as an analytical tool for the comprehensive speciation analysis of solution-phase samples, providing elemental and molecular species information in a single separation. Application of PB/GDMS towards the analysis and characterisation of botanical products is highlighted.
