Characterizing post-translational modifications(PTMs)in proteins bears a special importance in biology and also poses a daunting technical challenge in mass spectrometry.Among many PTMs,intensive attention has been paid to the determination of phosphorylation sites.A variety of approaches have been applied to tackle this challenge.The general approach currently employed is to monitor the neutral loss that arises from the detachment of a specific PTM group upon activation of precursor ions.
