US President Barack Obama on Friday issued an executive order creating a working group to coordinate federal oversight of US shale gas developments. The group will look to streamline a number of parallel regulatory initiatives examining the safety of shale oil and gas extraction, which the American Petroleum Institute has called “uncoordinated, unnecessary and overlapping”.
