As a 'non-geologist' this was a unique experience for me to experience a field trip of this nature. I had heard numerous tales of the diggers, large stones, and the general intrigue of the diamond business, so it was with much excitement that I boarded the bus at 6:30 on Thursday, October 26 2006. Even the bus trip on the way to Klerksdorp was an interesting one! Peter kept us regaled with stories about sinkholes in the area, different mines, and landmarks en route and also and a bit of history of the diamond areas we were going to visit! Out came the books and maps, and I must admit, that even the people who were nodding off on occasion, perked up! I was expecting the Diamond Exchange to be out of town, in a dusty warehouse, and full of strange looking characters! I was totally wrong, and very surprised at what materialised when we arrived in Wolmaransstad for our first stop of the day.
