Eosinophilic esophagitis: it's all in the family.

That eosinophilic esophagitis (EE) has become the "hot" esophageal disease for this decade cannot be denied. We have learned much about this disease in a relatively short period of time, and following the early report of EE by Attwood et al,1 many more studies have been published over the past 5 to 10 years. From this body of work, we now understand much about the clinical and endoscopic appearances in EE, the differences in presentation between children and adults, the allergy-based etiology in many cases, and the various emerging effective treatments. One of the remaining mysteries is the etiology of this disorder, particularly in adults.
