The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recently reported the use of public transportation increased by 2.1 percent in 2007, with bus ridership increasing by one percent, attributing the increase to rising fuel costs, increased road congestion and expanded public transportation systems. For the same period, ridership on ABQ RIDE, Albuquerque, NM, increased 7.7 percent - a greater increase than in much larger cities. Seattle reported an increase of 7.5 percent; Denver, 7.0 percent; and Minneapolis, 5.4 percent. The trend has continued into 2008 with an increase of 11 percent over January and February 2007.
