Ten years after the concept of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) was introduced in North America the high-capacity, lower-cost public transit solution still struggles to compete with light rail and develop an image that transit operators and riders can support.The National Bus Rapid Transit Institute (NBRTI) at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, through research and public outreach promotes the benefits of high-capacity bus service through the implementation of BRT systems in North America.
