Crohn's disease of the esophagus with esophagobronchial fistula formation: a case report and review of the literature.

Esophageal involvement of Crohn's disease is rare. The incidence of Crohn's disease in adults is estimated to be between 0.2% and 1.8%.1:2 Esophagobronchial fistula formation is an extremely rare and devastating manifestation of esophageal Crohn's disease. To date, we have identified 15, reported cases of the disease process.4"13 We present a case of esophagobronchial fistula formation in a patient with Crohn's disease that progressed despite aggressive medical management. Ultimately, esophagectomy offered definitive treatment of both the fistula and its infectious complications
