Rational Energies Wins U.S. Patent for Trash Gasification, FT Synthesis

The U.S. Patent Office announced January 28 that Minnesota-based Rational Energies won a patent for a scheme involving municipal solid waste (MSW) gasification followed by Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis. According to the patent authors, “the present invention relates to a process wherein a municipal solid waste [MSW] material is converted to a refuse derived fuel, then to syngas, which is processed to produce a liquid feedstream via Fischer-Tropsch [FT] synthesis.
