TRI Launches BTL Gasification Demo Unit; 3 Projects in Hopper

Representatives from Baltimore-based gasification technology developer ThermoChem Recovery International (TRI) announced June 25 the company has started-up a new biomass gasification process demonstration unit (PDU) in Durham, N.C. The technology aims to boost prospects for cellulosic biofuels as mandated in proposed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency renewable fuel standards-2 (RFS-2) regulations (see Diesel Fuel News 05/25/09). The demo unit can convert 4 dry tons of biomass per day into synthesis gas, at the thermal equivalent of 1 megawatt (MW).
