Diagnosing the Unexpected in Exotic Patients

This review covers some common clinical presentations in a variety of exotic animals and includes listings of differential diagnoses for general findings. Each section also includes relatively in-depth discussion of some of the lesser known and/or rarely reported causes of described lesions. Goldfish (Carassius auratus), one of the world's favorite aquarium fish, are found in many different forms and colors (>100 recognized varieties). Life expectancy is 10-15 years. Current literature indicates that goldfish owners are quite willing to seek veterinary care for their sick fish.
