Remarkably few new assays are adopted into the routine practice of clinical oncology, despite there being vast numbers of articles in the literature about promising new markers. The Cancer Diagnosis Program (CDP) of the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) launched the Program for the Assessment of Clinical Cancer Tests (PACCT) in 2000 to address this problem.
