Demand for BASF coatings rise as raw material costs increase

GERMANY Earnings at BASF's coatings division were down in the second quarter even though demand improved as higher raw material costs were not fully passed on to customers. Stronger demand came from automotive and architectural coatings, except from Japan, where demand declined. Coatings sales rose 6% in the quarter to ?689 million, and 9% for the half-year to ?1.36 billion.
