A typical shift in a busy emergency department (ED) would easily involve the manage ment of conditions such as myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, stroke, abdominal surgical conditions, multisystem trauma, fractures, gunshot wounds, and shock. Trained emergency physicians rarely bat an eye when these conditions present. In fact, we live for these high-intensity scenarios.
