Ornidazole induced acute hepatotoxicity in an elderly patient

Ornidazole is a synthetic nitroimidazole derivative, which is generally a well-tolerated drug. This drug is preferred in the treatment of anaerobic infections, Helicobacter pylori, Crohn's disease, giardiasis and trichomoniasis. Over the recent years, the usage of ornidazole has gradually increased . Most common side effects of ornidazole are abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, metallic taste and diarrhea . Reported toxic effects of ornidazole on the liver are very rare . Herein, we describe a rare case of acute hepatotoxicity due to the short-term use of ornidazole.
